Today’s the day! Monday, June 2
I just talked with Donnie Jonas on the radio, and he reports that they have not found anything today at the Atocha site. Yesterday they found a gold disk, silver dishes and silverware with emeralds encrusted to them! The day before yesterday, they found more than 2,000 emeralds and the day before that, they found a chest of pieces of eight and a couple of hundred emeralds. If they keep this up, the emeralds will outvalue the silver and gold of the Atocha. |

Last week our Golden Crew found the chest of the pilot, Martin Jiminez, navigator of the Atocha. In it he had navigational dividers (5 sets), an ivory wristwatch (sundial type), an astrolabe in perfect condition, and a wooden linear vernier which I believe converts the astrolabe to a sextant. It has numbers on it like a slide rule. In his chest was an emerald of great value, S gold coins, and 14 bags with 100 pieces of eight in each bag, a 40 foot long gold chain and a 10 foot long gold chain. It looks as though this year is going to be a great year. ing investors and stockholders, to make sure that the point values on all the artifacts are fair and equitable, and that everybody gets a fair shake in the biggest treasure division in the history of the modern world. It is something like the famous painting by Howard Pyle (this issue’s cover illustration), showing a group of pirates on the beach. Underneath the picture it says, “So the treasure was divided.” |

We intend to be able to divide treasure later this year. Plans are also in the works for an Atocha party on September 20th, and we’ll give everyone advance notice of time and place as soon as they’re definite. We will be showing films and videos of all the treasures coming in and ending the day with dancing on Saturday evening. We will also be having a sunset festivity and watch the “Green Flash”, complete with bongos, jugglers, contortionists, bagpipes, etc. We have spent large amounts of money since we hit the Big Pile last July 20th: on security, preservation, cleaning, computers and a laser computer photographic system to speed up the process of making hundreds of certificates before we divide the treasure in September. It’s a big, big job and very costly, but we are getting the job done. I’m sure we must have the most advanced state of the art in computerized archaeology in the world. This system will probably be employed in years to come by museums, coin dealers, auction houses and others all over the world. |

We have had several Division Committee meetings with 20 to 30 people present, many of whom are attorneys and CPA’s represent- That’s all, folks! |
